For several years the University of Arizona and Dr. Ed Franklin have challenged students in the annual State FFA Agricultural Mechanics Career Development Event (CDE) Field Day. Students engage in hands-on activities designed to measure knowledge and skills in many areas of agriculture mechanics including construction, electricity, plumbing, irrigation, and power equipment operation and maintenance. During this 30-minute webinar you will get and overview of the FFA Agriculture Mechanics Development Event held in person this year and the more than 20+ student teams that participated with their solar energy projects. In addition, the resources will be provided to help you with similar projects for your classroom.
Presenter: Ed Franklin, Associate Professor, Agricultural Education. Department of Agricultural Education, Technology & Innovation, at The University of Arizona, Tucson. Dr. Franklin has been teaching at The University of Arizona since 2000. He began his solar energy training in 2012 with Solar Energy International (SEI), completing the Solar Professional Program. He developed a solar energy system lecture/laboratory course in his Department. Dr. Franklin participated in CREATE professional development workshops including biofuels and solar energy systems. He conducts professional development workshops for teachers, cooperative extension audiences, 4-H groups, and Tribal communities.
