Bring energy concepts, hands-on learning, and real-world impact into your classroom with “Sunshine in a Jar.” In this engaging webinar, participants will build a solar-powered lantern using photovoltaic panels, rechargeable batteries, and a custom circuit board—while learning practical electronics skills.
Aligned with NGSS Physics and NRC Framework standards, this STEAM-based experience introduces key concepts such as voltage, current, circuits, and solar energy, all through an accessible, project-based approach.
Beyond the technical skills, this session highlights a powerful story of teacher-led innovation that evolved into a nationally available kit supported by KidWind and connected to global service efforts through Education Without Borders.
Participants will also explore the “Power it Forward” model—where students build lanterns for themselves and for underserved communities—connecting engineering with purpose.
Key Takeaways
Empower your students to see science and engineering as tools for change—one lantern at a time.
*For live verified webinar participants, KidWind will send each participant a Sunshine in a Jar modified starter kit that will allow you to build your own solar lantern after the webinar is completed.
