About the talk. The discussion will introduce ANS chapters to DOE EM’s mission and the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle, and link its importance to instilling public trust in the use of nuclear energy. It will also expose chapter members to workforce opportunities in critical spaces such as R&D, standards development, and policy. The talk runs about 45 minutes, followed by live Q&A with Joe.
The speaker Joseph Sinicrope, Research Scientist, Applied Research Center
Florida International University. His work covers fixative technologies supporting the Department of Energy’s nuclear deactivation and decommissioning activities, the consensus standards that let new technology be adopted across the DOE EM complex, and workforce programs aligning STEM students from underrepresented communities with federal agencies.
He serves as a Director on the ASTM International Board of Directors, the Vice Chair on the E10 Committee on Nuclear Technology and Applications, and the Chair for the E10.03 Subcommittee on Radiological Protection for Deactivation and Decommissioning. He is also the Faculty Member-in-Residence for the ANS WISE Program. Prior to FIU, Joseph served as a United States Marine Corps Officer for 22 years.
